ITALIAN CREAM CAKE 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
5 egg yolks
2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can coconut
1 c. chopped pecans
5 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk

Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add egg yolks. Add flour and soda gradually with buttermilk. Add vanilla, coconut and pecans. Fold in beaten egg whites. Bake in 3 (9") pans at 350 degrees.

ICING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Beat cream cheese and butter together. Add sugar and vanilla. Spread coconut and nuts over top (optional).
