1 c. dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. hot water
1 c. shortening or 1/2 c. oil
1 c. sugar or 1/2 c. honey
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs
2 1/3 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
40 Hershey kisses
1/2 c. nuts

Combine dates, baking soda and water. Mix and let cool. In a bowl cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add beaten eggs. Add date mixture, flour and salt. Place half the batter in a greased tube pan. Place 20 Hershey Kisses and 1/4 cup nuts on batter. Cover with remaining batter. Place 20 Hershey Kisses and 1/4 cup nuts on top and press into dough. Bake 1 hour at 325 to 350 degrees.
