5 lb. beef blade or round bone roast 2 1/2" thick
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tbsp. shredded orange peel
1 clove garlic, sliced
6 whole cloves
1 tsp. sugar
4 onions, sliced thin
1 lb. can tomatoes
2 slices rye bread (or 1 c. croutons)
1 green pepper, sliced into rings
