3/4 c. soft shortening
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/2 c. applesauce
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. raisins

Mix shortening, sugar, egg. Stir in applesauce. Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices. Stir into shortening mixture. Add raisins and nuts. Drop by spoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
