TWO HOUR NUTROLLS | |
6 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 8 tbsp. sugar 2 cakes or packets of yeast (mixed with 1/2 c. warm water to which 1 tbsp. sugar has been added) 1/2 lb. butter, room temperature 3 beaten eggs 1 1/2 c. sour cream or canned milk Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine flour, butter, salt, sugar, eggs, and sour cream. Add yeast and water mixture which has risen. Blend all ingredients well. Divide dough into four to six parts and roll out each part thin as for a jelly roll. Spread with cooled nut mixture (recipe following). Roll and place on greased baking sheet and allow to rise 1 hour or until double in size. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. After removing from the oven, drizzle with butter and sprinkle with confectioners sugar. NUT MIXTURE: 2 lb. finely chopped nuts 1 1/2 c. sugar Half and half, to moisten 1/2 stick butter 2 tbsp. lemon juice Cinnamon or vanilla, to taste 1/2 lb. raisins Cook mixture very slowly to dissolve sugar and butter and to blend flavors. I usually add 1 cup of half and half to get the right consistency for spreading on the dough. |
