DATE - NUT BREAD 
4 c. dates, cut up
2 c. nuts, broken
2 c. boiling water
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
2 level tsp. baking soda
1 orange pit, use blender

Pour boiling water over dates and nuts. Cream sugar, eggs, shortening and figs. Stir in flour, fruit mixture sugar and soda by hand. Fill 3 medium loaf pans. Bake 50 to 60 minutes. Line pans with greased waxed paper, easier to remove.
