FRENCH APPLE COBBLER 
Filling:

5 cups peeled, sliced tart apples
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup water
3/4 cups sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. butter, softened

Batter:

1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. softened butter
1/2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg, slightly beaten

Filling: In a medium bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and water. Turn into 9 inch square pan. Dot apples with butter.

Batter: Combine all batter ingredients. Beat with a wooden spoon until smooth. Drop batter in 9 portions on apples, spacing evenly. Batter will spread during baking.

Bake at 375°F for 35-40 minutes, or until apple are fork tender & crust is golden. Serve warm with cream.
