APPLE WALNUT COBBLER 
Spoon through rich cake-like topper to a juicy, flavorful apple-walnut filling. Excellent topped with whipped cream.

4 cups thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples
1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts, divided
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/3 cup butter, melted

Place apples in a lightly greased 9-inch round cake pan. Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 cup walnuts; sprinkle over apples. Sift together flour, remaining sugar, baking powder and salt. Combine egg, milk and butter; add to dry ingredients, mixing until smooth. Pour over apple mixture. Top with remaining nuts.

Bake at 325°F for 40 to 50 minutes or until top is golden brown.

Makes 6 to 8 servings.
