APPLE OATMEAL BARS 
1 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. quick oats
1/2 c. shortening
2 1/2 c. slice apples or dried apricots sliced
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. sugar

Cut shortening into flour, brown sugar, soda, salt and oatmeal. Blend well until crumbly. Spread half of mixture into 7 x 11 or 8 x 8 baking dish. combine butter and sugar. Arrange on crumb mixture and top with remaining crumbs. Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve plain or with whipped cream. Serves 8 to 10.
