THE ORIGINAL CHOCOLATE CHIP
COOKIE
 
1 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. unsifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts; optional

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Cream together butter, sugars, and vanilla. Beat eggs and add. Mix flour, salt, and baking soda together, and add gradually to mixture. Stir in chips and nuts. Drop batter by well rounded teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees.

VARIATION: Pan cookies.

Preheat oven. Spread cookie dough into greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool, then cut into 35 2-inch squares.
