OKRA PATTIES 
1 lb. okra, cut thin
1 c. onions, chopped
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 c. water
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. corn meal
1 c. shortening

Combine okra, onions, salt, pepper, water and egg. Mix well. Combine flour, baking powder and cornmeal. Add to okra mixture and blend. Drop by tablespoons into hot fat, flatten a little, brown well on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
