SPICY RAISIN CAKE 
1 box raisins
2 c. water
1 c. cold water
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. each cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves
4 c. flour

Boil raisins in 2 cups of water. Cool 5 minutes, add one cup of cold water and set aside. Mix together sugar and butter. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda and spices.

Combine all three mixtures in one large bowl and mix well. Grease and flour two bread pans. Divide mixture between the two and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 50 minutes. Test to determine if cake is done by inserting a knife. Cake is done if the knife comes out dry. Cook additional 10 minutes, if necessary.
