SRIRACHA SAUCE
Homemade Sriracha Recipe Makes a Great Substitute:

With the recent Sriracha shortage driving prices sky high, many home cooks are turning to DIY alternatives. This homemade Sriracha recipe uses just a handful of ingredients and takes only a few minutes to prepare. It packs all the flavor and heat of the classic sauce but saves you money in the process.

Here's what you need:

2–3 fresh red jalapeño peppers
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

And here's how to make it:

Wash and dry the jalapenos. Remove the stem and seeds.

In a blender or food processor, puree the jalapenos until smooth.

Combine the pureed jalapeno, sugar, vinegar, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until everything is well combined and the mixture begins to simmer.

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.

Use a spoon to skim off any foam that may have formed on the surface of the mixture.

Let the mixture cool down slightly before transferring it to a glass jar or container.

Store the sriracha sauce in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

The original Sriracha sauce typically contains chili peppers, garlic, sugar, salt, and vinegar. However, the exact proportions and ingredients may vary depending on the brand.

This recipe makes a great alternative to store-bought Sriracha during the shortage. Enjoy!
