3/4 c. shortening (not butter)
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla or 1/2 tsp. lemon extract
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and extract. Mix flour, baking powder and salt and blend in. Chill 1 hour, roll out 1/8 inch thick and cut with cookie cutters.

Bake at 375 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes on ungreased sheets. Decorate with icing. Makes approximately 4 dozen.
