DOUBLE DIPPED ROASTED
GRASSHOPPERS
 
1 doz. or more med. sized fresh grasshoppers (the large grasshoppers are for experienced entomophagists only)
Toothpicks
Hot fudge topping for ice cream (must be thick even when warm)

Build up an appetite by chasing and capturing grasshoppers. Kill the hoppers by placing them in a plastic bag in the freezer overnight to meet an early winter OR by placing them in boiling water. They turn reddish like lobsters!

Roast in a 400 degree oven for about 8 minutes until crispy. Remove legs, wings, antennae. It is unappetizing when those get caught in your teeth. Push a toothpick through each thorax.

Warm the jar of hot fudge in the microwave or a pan of hot water. Double dip each grasshopper, making sure it is unrecognizable for beginners. Enjoy this high protein snack.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
