HARVEST APPLE COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tbsp. water
1 c. diced apples
1 1/2 c. uncooked rolled oats
1 c. raisins

Sift together dry ingredients. Add shortening, sugar, egg, and water. Beat until thoroughly mixed. Stir in raw apples, oats, and raisins. Mixture will be stiff. Make balls of dough, size of large walnut. Roll in cinnamon sugar (2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon). Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. To make drop cookies, add an extra egg. Yield: 2 1/2 to 3 dozen.
