DEVILS FOOD CAKE 
4 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 eggs
2 c. sour buttermilk
1 c. cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. vanilla
4 c. flour
1/2 c. hot water

Mix all ingredients together and pour into greased and floured cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done.

BUTTERMILK ICING:

2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 stick butter
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Combine in iron skillet and cook until it starts to turn light tan. Add butter, vanilla, and soda. Cook until thick. Pour onto cooled cake.
