ITALIAN EAST SWEET BREAD 
2 cakes yeast, crumbled
1/4 c. lukewarm milk
3/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. melted butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. anise extract
1 tbsp. lemon extract
1 tbsp. vanilla
8 eggs, lightly beaten
5 c. all purpose flour
1 egg, beaten

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk; set aside until bubbly. In a mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, salt and flavorings; blend thoroughly. Blend in 8 eggs. Add yeast mixture and flour alternately to form a soft dough. Knead until velvety smooth. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 3 hours. Divide into 3 equal parts and shape into loaves. Let rise again until doubled. Brush tops with beaten egg. Bake in greased loaf pans at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
