2 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 egg
Pinch of salt
1/2 c. brown sugar

Mix flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt (set aside). Mix the sugars and shortening, add egg and dry ingredients. Shape dough into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten lightly with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
