PARTY SOFT PRETZELS
4 - 4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 pkg. active dry yeast
2 tbsp. sugar
2 1/2 tbsp. salt
1 c. milk
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
2 eggs, lightly beaten with 1 tbsp. of water
Vegetable oil
Coarse salt or sesame or poppy seeds

Take 1 1/2 cups of flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoon salt. Heat milk, water and oil to 120-130 degrees. Then add to the above dry ingredients. Beat on low speed of an electric mixer for 2 minutes. Then on high speed for 2 more minutes. Spoon in additional flour and stir to make a soft dough. Place in greased bowl and grease the surface of dough. Cover and let rise in warm place, about 30-40 minutes until doubled in size.

Punch down and divide into 48 pieces. Make into 8-12 inch "ropes" and fold into pretzel shape. Cover pretzels and let rise in warm place for 5-10 minutes, until risen.

THIS STEP MAY BE OMITTED FOR BAKE TASTE. Bring a large saucepan of water to boiling and remaining salt. Reduce heat. Place pretzels, one at a time, on a large slotted spoon and immerse for 20 seconds, turning to cook both sides. Remove and drain on wire rack.

Place pretzels on cookie sheet. Brush with egg mixture and sprinkle with salt or sesame or poppy seeds.

Bake in oven (preheat 350 degrees) for 35 minutes or until done.

Serve warm with dips or spreads. Makes 4 dozen.
