RED VELVET CAKE 
Cake:

2 oz. or 1/4 c. red food coloring
3 tbsp. Nestle's Quik cocoa, instant
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix coloring and cocoa together; let set. Beat together the Crisco and sugar. Add eggs one at a time and continue beating. Add coloring, cocoa and vanilla. Stir well. Alternately add cake flour and salt which have been sifted together and the buttermilk. Beat hard. Stir in the vinegar and soda.

Bake at 350°F for 35-40 minutes.

Icing:

1 stick butter
8 tbsp. Crisco
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. flour
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix butter until fluffy. Add Crisco, one Tbsp. at a time, until light and fluffy. Add sugar; beat continually. Add flour and milk and vanilla. Do not cook.
