GERMAN BURGERS | |
1 1/2 c. milk, scalded 1/2 c. butter 2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. warm water 2 pkg. dry yeast 7-8 c. flour 2 eggs 2 lb. ground beef 1 med. onion 1/2 head cabbage Place butter in hot milk to soften. Add sugar and salt; cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add yeast mixture and slightly beaten eggs to milk. Add 4 cups of flour and beat until smooth. Add flour to make a soft dough; knead allow to rise until double. MEAT AND CABBAGE: 2 lb. ground beef 1 med. onion 1/2 head cabbage Brown and drain ground beef with chopped onion. Boil until tender the shredded cabbage; drain. Mix with the hamburger and salt to taste. Roll 2 inch balls of dough to 6 inches in diameter and place a large spoonful of the hamburger mixture in the center of each; bring up dough to seal, turn the rolls over to rest on the seal. Allow to rise 20-30 minutes in a warm place. Bake until golden brown at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Serves 6-8 people. |
