MARBLE CAKE 
1 c. shortening
6 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
5.5 oz. chocolate syrup
3 c. sugar
3 c. plain flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add the eggs to sugar mixture, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together. Add flour mixture and buttermilk to sugar mixture, a little at a time, beginning and ending with the buttermilk. Add the vanilla last.

Pour 1/2 of this batter into greased and floured tube pan. Combine the chocolate syrup to the remaining batter. Pour chocolate mixture over the other batter and fold in gently with a spatula. Bake at 350 degrees for 70 minutes.
