1/4 c. shortening 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. lemon rind or vanilla (1 tsp.) 1 egg, unbeaten 1 tbsp. milk 1 c. flour 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease baking sheet lightly. Cream together the shortening, sugar, salt, nutmeg, lemon rind or vanilla, egg and milk. Add flour, baking powder and soda into creamed mixture slowly until well blended. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto baking sheet. Flatten with glass by pressing on cookie. Coat glass bottom with butter once but dip in sugar each time you press a cookie flat. Bake at 375 degrees for 9-12 minutes. Cool. Store in tightly covered container. |
