DUTCH HONEY BREAD | |
1 1/2 c. honey 1 c. warm water 1 big tbsp. butter 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 tsp. allspice 1 tbsp. brown sugar Sm. pieces of ginger or orange peel I use half a 4 ounce package of candied orange peel. Boil all above ingredients for about 15 minutes. Let cool. Blend in 2 1/2 cups flour sifted with 1 teaspoon baking powder. Add 1 teaspoon baking soda which has been mixed with a bit of warm water. Stir carefully and place in greased and floured molds of either cake form or bread form. Bake 1 hour in medium warm oven (350 degrees). |
