POPPY SEED TEA CAKE | |
1/3 c. poppy seeds 1 c. buttermilk 1 c. butter 1 1/2 c. sugar 4 eggs 2 1/2 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. orange extract Evening before - combine poppyseeds and buttermilk and let set overnight for full flavor. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add orange extract. Sift together dry ingredients. Alternately blend dry and wet ingredients beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Turn batter into greased and floured 10 inch tube or Bundt pan. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mix (2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon). Add remaining batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until tests done. Cool 10 minutes, then remove from pan (can use 2 loaf pans). |
