2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 c. applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. warm water
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
4 c. flour
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. nuts

Cream sugar and butter. Dissolve baking soda in warm water and add, along with spices and applesauce. Add flour and mix well. Stir in nuts and raisins. Bake in greased and floured 10-inch tube pan at 350 degrees for 75 minutes. Cake is done when toothpick inserted comes out clean.

NOTE: At Christmas time, add 1 cup mixed candied fruit. Excellent fruit cake.
