GRANDMA B'S WHOLE WHEAT FLAT BREAD | |
1 qt. cold water 1 qt. scalded milk 3 pkgs. yeast 6 tsp. salt 1 c. honey 3 full c. whole wheat flour 3 c. white flour 1 c. fat, melted (not hot) Mix well with spoon. Add enough white flour to make dough slightly sticky. Knead a little. Let it rise double in size. Punch down and rise dough again. Divide into 6 round loaves. Let rise a little. Take loaves and stretch into oblong flats. (1 pair per cookie sheet about 1 to 1 1/4 inches thick.) Prick with butt end of butter knife. Let rise 10 to 15 minutes. Bake 30 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 6 large loaves. Excellent warm. Freeze the rest to have on hand for later use. |
