SAUCEPAN BROWNIES 
1/2 c. butter
2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 eggs

Melt butter and chocolate together in saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, flour, baking powder, vanilla and nuts. Add eggs and beat thoroughly. Spread in a greased pan (9 x 9 x 2 inches). Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 30 minutes. Dust with confectioners' sugar if desired.

Cut in 18 bars to serve as cookies or in 9 squares to serve as dessert topped with vanilla ice cream. Chocolate fans may wish to pour a chocolate dessert sauce over the ice cream.
