ORANGE DROP COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 beaten eggs
1/4 c. orange juice
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. sour milk
3 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped dates or nutmeats

Cream shortenings and sugar; add eggs, orange juice, rind, vanilla extract and sour milk; mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Add dates or nutmeats. Drop from teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 15 minutes. Makes 5 dozen cookies. For smaller number of cookies cut recipe in half.
