GRANDMA HARKNESS' SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
1 c. sour cream or sour milk
3 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 scant tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
5-6 c. flour

Add enough flour to roll out or not so stiff to drop. Refrigerate before rolling out. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING:

6 tbsp. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch salt
1 lb. confectioners' sugar
3-4 tbsp. milk

Cream butter and vanilla. Add salt. Gradually add sugar, beating well. Stir in milk and beat until frosting is spreadable. We always use this recipe for our cut out Christmas cookies.
