ALMOND COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
3 c. flour
Dash of salt
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. whole almonds

Cream shortening and sugar. Mix almond extract with eggs and add to shortening mixture. Mix dry ingredients; form into balls; flatten. Press almond on top and brush with egg yolk. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
