HOT GINGERED PEAR
2 (1 lb., 13 oz.) size cans pear halves
About 24 cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
2 (2 inch) cinnamon sticks
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
4 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. grated lemon peel
1 tsp. grated orange peel
2 tbsp. butter
2 1/2 tbsp. chopped crystalized ginger

1. Drain pears - reserving 1 1/2 cups syrup.

2. In medium saucepan, combine reserved syrup with 10 cloves, cinnamon sticks and nutmeg. Bring to boiling - reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 5 minutes. Remove cloves and discard.

3. To syrup - add lemon juice, lemon and orange peels, ginger and butter. Simmer, uncovered - stirring occasionally 10-15 minutes or until slightly thickened.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

5. Arrange pear halves, hollow side down in single layers in shallow baking dish. Then insert 1 or 2 cloves in each pear.

6. Pour hot syrup over pears. Bake uncovered, 15 minutes - basting several times with syrup - serve hot. May be made ahead and refrigerate - heat before serving at 300 degrees for 10 minutes.
