GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
1 pkg. Bakers German Sweet Chocolate 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. boiling water 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. buttermilk 1 c. butter or other shortening 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 c. Swans Down Cake flour 4 egg whites 4 egg yolks, unbeaten 2 c. sugar Melt chocolate over boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat well; add chocolate, and vanilla; mix well. Sift together salt, soda and flour, add alternately with buttermilk to the chocolate mixture; beating well and until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites, pour into 3 (8 to 9 inch) layer cake pans lined with wax paper. Bake at 350 degrees 30 to 40 minutes. Cool and ice. |
