MOTHER'S SHREDDED WHEAT BREAD | |
3 lg. shredded wheat biscuits 3 tbsp. lard or shortening 4 c. boiling water 1/2 c. powdered milk 3/4 c. molasses 1 tbsp. salt 1. Pour boiling water over shredded wheat and add the remainder of the ingredients. 2. 1/2 cup lukewarm water. To this add 2 tablespoons of dry yeast or 2 packages yeast. 3. Add 8 cups flour slowly to mixture. If more is needed to handle as there is a different in flour absorption. Toss on floured board and knead for 5 minutes. Grease the mixing bowl and return dough to rise 1 hour. Cover with plate and cloth. Keep from drafts. Let it double in bulk. Toss back on board and mold into loaves or rolls. Let rise again to double its bulk. Bake bread loaves 15 minutes, 400 degrees. Reduce to 350 degrees and cook 20 minutes or until golden brown. |
