MOM'S DATE NUT BREAD 
1 1/2 c. boiling coffee
1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1 tbsp. vegetable shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 c. sugar
2 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Combine coffee, dates and shortening. Allow to cool. Mix together with vanilla, egg and sugar. Sift dry ingredients and add, mixing thoroughly. Fold in nuts. Pour into 2 greased and lined loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Better if kept 1 day.
