CRANBERRY CORDIAL 
1 (12 oz.) pkg. fresh cranberries
4 c. vodka
2 c. sugar
1 c. water
Peel of 2 oranges
1/2 tsp. almond extract
3 whole cloves
1 stick cinnamon

Rinse and pick over cranberries. Place in food processor and process thoroughly. Add vodka and place in a dark place in glass jar with tight lid. (I covered jar with a paper grocery sack and put in a closet.) Let stand 30 days. Strain through fine mesh strainer, pushing against solids. Discard solids; reserve liquid.

Place sugar, water, spices and peel in pan and boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove peel; stir in extract. Pour syrup over cranberry mixture. Strain through paper coffee filter. Pour into bottle and cap tightly. Mature at least 1 week before serving - it gets more mellow with age. Yield: 1 1/2 quarts.
