MA'S GINGERBREAD | |
1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. sugar 1 egg or egg substitute 1/4 c. molasses (light 1/4 c., dark 1/2 - 1 c.) 1 tsp. ginger 1/4 tsp. cloves (ground powder) 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 3/4 c. boiling water 2 1/4 c. flour (cake flour) Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and lightly flour baking pans. Large loaf pan. Cream butter with sugar. Add the egg and rest of dry ingredients. Last add boiling water. Use electric mixer at medium speed for 3 minutes. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean after being inserted in the center of the cake. Serve plain or garnished with confectionery sugar sprinkled on top, or whipping cream, ice cream, butter, applesauce or a warm lemon sauce. |
