NAN LOEWE'S OATMEAL RAISIN
COOKIES
 
1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 tsp. water
1 c. raisins
1 c. quick rolled oats
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
1 tsp. cinnamon (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat shortening and sugars together until very fluffy and light in texture and color. Add egg, water, and vanilla; mix well. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Add to above mixture. Add oats and then raisins and nuts. Incorporate well. Drop by rounded teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-15 minutes. Let stand 1 minute, then transfer to wire rack. Store in air-tight container. Makes 4 dozen cookies.
