MOCHO CAKES
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten light
1/2 c. boiling milk
2 tsp. butter, melt in milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

FROSTING:

3/4 c. butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
4 tbsp. cream
Vanilla

Pour batter into two 9-inch square cake pans and bake. Cut cakes into squares. Spread on all sides with frosting and roll into ground peanuts. Grind a little of the cake with the peanuts as this makes them less oily and helps the frosting stick.

I had been trying to find this recipe for years. My mom made these when I was a litte girl and the recipe was no where to be found. This is exactly as I remember them. My family loved them too! So thank you thank you!

My grandmother made first made these cakes during her honeymoon in 1921 while they stayed with friends in Virginia. After that, she lovingly made them every Christmas for her family. The tradition passed to her daughter (my mother) and after mother passed away, my sister continued making them. Now the grandchildren and great-grandchildren are carrying the holiday fun! They are a pain and a mess to make but in our family it wouldn't be Christmas without these waxed paper wrapped treats!

We had these except my mom would roll them in coconut instead of peanuts. We have them every Christmas!
