IRISH SODA BREAD | |
3 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. sugar 1 1/2 c. buttermilk About 3/4 c. raisins 1 tbsp. caraway seeds 1/2 tbsp. poppy seeds Blend dry ingredients. Add raisins, caraway seeds, and poppy seeds. Pour in buttermilk; blend with fork. Knead for 3 minutes. Shape to fit an 8 or 9-inch round pan. With a sharp knife, draw a cross to ensure a good loaf and good blessings for the household. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Pour a thick mixture of about 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and about 2 tablespoons of hot water over loaf and bake for another few minutes until the sugar crystalizes. |
