WHOLE WHEAT ROLLS | |
1 c. shortening 3/4 c. boiling water 3/4 c. sugar 1 c. cold water 1 tsp. salt 3 c. whole-wheat flour 2 beaten eggs 2 yeast cakes, dissolved using 1/4 c. lukewarm water 3 c. all-purpose flour (unsifted) Pour boiling water over sugar and shortening. Add cold water and beaten eggs. When cool, add yeast, salt and flour (small amount at a time), stirring well. Let rise 3 hours. Make into rolls (let rise 2 more hours) or store in refrigerator until ready to use. You can make all rolls out at once and freeze. They freeze well. DO NOT CROWD TOO CLOSE IN PAN WHEN BAKING. Bake at 400°F until brown and done. |
