HAWAIIAN CHOCOLATE SQUARES 
3 blocks unsweetened chocolate
1 c. butter, softened
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs
1 1/2 c. unsifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. crushed pineapple, well drained
1/2 c. chopped nuts (opt.)

Melt chocolate in top of double boiler. Cream butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs. Beat well. In separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon; blend into creamed mixture. Stir pineapple into 1 3/4 cups of the batter; set aside. Blend melted chocolate into remaining batter. Stir in nuts (if desired).

Spread chocolate batter into greased 13 x 9 inch pan. Spread pineapple mixture evenly over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool completely in pan. Frost with Vanilla Frosting. Cut into squares. Yield: about 2 dozen.

VANILLA FROSTING:

1 c. powdered sugar
1 tbsp. shortening
1 to 2 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients in small mixer bowl; beat until spreading consistency.
