DATE DROP COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda in hot water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour

FILLING:

1/2 lb. dates
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, 1 teaspoon baking soda, vanilla, and flour. Drop 1 teaspoon of dough on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with glass tumbler. Drop a bit of filling on dough. Add 1/2 teaspoon dough. Will spread when baked. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes.

FILLING: Boil until dates are soft.
