DATE DROP COOKIES 
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. warm water
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/8 tsp. salt
1 c. flour
1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg yolks; mix well. Add warm water; mix. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Sift flour, spices, salt, and soda; add to mixture. Add the dates and nuts. Drop by teaspoonful on a greased and floured cookie sheet 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
