DATE DROP COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 1/3 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda in 3 tbsp. hot water

Mix as given and drop by spoonfuls on pan. Make indentation in each and put in filling before baking.

FILLING (cook and cool) :
1 1/2 c. dates, cut up
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. lemon juice

Bake in 375 degree oven.
