APPLESAUCE COOKIES 
4 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. applesauce (canned or fresh)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 1/2 c. raisins

Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon and cloves; set aside. Cream shortening and sugar. Add 1 egg; beat until light and fluffy. Combine and add applesauce and baking soda. Mix well. Add dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition. Stir in walnuts and raisins; mix well. Drop by teaspoonful onto lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.

Makes about 8 dozen cookies.
