FRESH APPLE SLICES
2 1/2 c. unsifted flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 egg yolk and milk
3/4 c. crushed corn flakes
6 c. peeled and thin slices of apples
1 c. sugar
1 egg white
1 c. confectioners sugar
2-3 tbsp. fresh lemon juice

Sift flour and sugar together; cut in shortening. Measure egg yolk with enough milk to make 2/3 cups of liquid. Add to flour mixture, and combine until dough shapes into a ball. Divide dough in half and roll into a 15 1/2 x 11 inch pan, like a jelly roll pan.

Combine apples, sugar, and a little cinnamon. Spread the bottom of the dough with the crushed corn flakes. Spread the apples over the corn flakes. Roll remaining dough and spread over top crust - pinch pastry edges together. Do not make slits on the top crust.

Beat egg whits, and spread over top crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Combine confectioners sugar with lemon juice and drizzle over top crust, after removing from the oven, and while still hot.
