APPLE PIE (GERMANY) | |
1 (9 inch) pie shell 4 to 5 c. sliced apples 1 1/4 c. sugar 1/8 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/8 tsp. salt 2 slightly beaten eggs 1/2 c. top milk Line a 9 inch pan with pastry. Slice apples in thick slices about 1/4 inch thick. Place sliced apples in shell in overlapping position. Sprinkle sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt over apples. Make a custard of slightly beaten eggs mixed with top milk. Pour custard over apples and bake at 400 degrees on second rack from bottom for 40 to 45 minutes. If apples are unusually hard, cook them for 5 minutes, drain and then place in crust. |
