5-7 tart apples
1 c. sugar
2 1/2 tbsp. flour
Dash of salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 - 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tbsp. butter

PASTRY:

2 c. flour
2/3 c. shortening (Crisco works best)
1/3 c. water
Dash of salt

Pare apples and slice thin. Mix sugar, flour, salt and spices; add to apples. Mix. Fill 9" pastry pie pan. Dot with butter. Adjust top crust. Sprinkle a little sugar over top crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes.
